About this deal

We found that the inside of the tent was light enough to happily sit around in the living/porch space. We had a couple of large chairs and some other furniture in there with us. The Berghaus Air 4 came out first in almost every category, so perhaps not a surprise, the clear winner was the Berghaus Air 4. After all it is the most expensive tent of the 5 reviewed here – twice as expensive as the cheapest Eurohike Genus 400. I also appreciate the brow over the side door of the Berghaus Air 4 and the front door of the Quechua Air Seconds 4.1 Frequent usage & deterioration Fully waterproof with a high hydrostatic head rating (twice the minimum UK waterproofing standard), the Genus 400 also comes with a detachablegroundsheet, which is very handy when you need to give your tent a clean. Though as soon as the sun shines through the large mesh front door, it felt fine; and I began to value the shading that the full, dark panel provides. If you position your tent smartly, it can give decent shading almost throughout the day. The tent is secured to the ground by steel pegs and high visibility (red) guy lines that have a high and a low connection point on the air beams. Doors The Eurohike Air 400 features a 4000mm HH flysheet, which should be enough to prevent water leaking in during heavy rains, and should remain waterproof in light snowing too. The Berghaus Air 4 has great all around properties– it is the biggest, sturdiest, most user-friendly among the 5. The Eurohike Air 400 also has a footprint and a carpet available, but not other accessories. All the Eurohike carpets are ‘universal’, so they won’t exactly match in size with the Air 400, in return, you can use them for the Genus 400 as well. Again, depending on how many people are going to use it, and what their relationship is…I mean, if you are camping with two smaller children it may be perfectly fine, as long as you don’t mind sleeping close to each other. Alternatively, you can save space with a bunk-bed for example. The cheapest: Eurohike Genus 400 (17 points) You can find a detailed, head-to-head comparison of Eurohike Air 400 vs. Eurohike Genus 400 vs Berghaus Air 4 (and two more entry level small family tents) here:

Spoiler alert: there are alternatives worth considering – see also: Eurohike Genus 400 Air vs Berghaus Air 4 vs Eurohike Air 400) Eurohike Genus 400 Review Feels a bit dark inside. Strongly suggested to get hold of a footprint and/or a carpet to protect the groundsheet, so this add-on should be considered. Having said that, even with the add-ons the Air 400 remains one of the cheapest 4 person air tents. Where to buy the EuroHike Air 400 Because there is only one door and the large PVC windows cannot be opened, the Eurohike Genus 400 can get really warm inside in the summer. On the other hand, thanks to the light-grey flysheet, it feels bright and less depressing than other tents with the dark indigo blue fabric. Weather protection, fabrics Flysheet My Best Air Tents in 2020 (round-up post) may also give you some more ideas what’s worth looking at. The bedroom divider can be removed if you’d rather have one big bedroom. As a matter of fact, the whole ‘inner tent’ can be removed if you needed more living space during the day.A single large bedroom is suitable for sleeping up to 4people, or 2 people with a degree of luxury. The living area is large enough for a camp table and chairs, and makes an ideal place to wait out any unexpected summer showers. The problem is that it does not tell you how waterproof the tent itself. You can have a 10,000 HH flysheet if the zips are not waterproof, or the fabric rips where the guylines are attached and the whole tent collapses in stronger winds. As for other products within the Eurohike Air range ie accessories, replacement parts; there are a few choices. Of course, you can buy air tubes and valves in case something goes wrong, however in case a beam leaks air it most likely can be mended temporarily by using the repair kit that is included with the Air 400.

Poor quality flysheet ripped at the stiches on an earlier generation Genus 400 Overall weather protection A bigger uncle, the Vango Odyssey Air 400; or the Odyssey Air 500are for those who need a bit more space for their sleeping area; and for those who want impressive stability and weather resilience. The Odysseys have both: thanks to their inner tension system they can withstand winds up to 70mph.I did not include it in the comparison, but I believe Quechua deserve one point deducted for offering 5 years warranty. All the others come with 30-day return and 12 months warranty. As you enter the tent, the living area in front of you is actually – surprisingly big – 225 cms long and 250 cms wide. The sidewalls are almost vertical, the headroom is 190 cms. It feels spacious, especially if you enter with a preconception like I did. Whether or not that difference is justified? I am not entirely sure, but the Berghaus Air 4 is still not an expensive 4-berth tent, if you look at the 4-person small family air tents by the likes of Vango, Outwell or Kampa etc.
