I teach English as a foreign language here in France and thought what a wonderful teaching aid this would be. This book slightly reminds me of one of my favourite novels, Aunt Mame by Patrick Dennis - both stories play on the idea that once you remove the sensible parental figure from the family dynamics, then the fun can really begin. One of her money-making exploits involved Grandma teaching her how to knit a pot holder; at this point in the story, the pace slowed a little, reflecting the luxury of time that grandparents can give their grandchildren. Chances are, your book loving BFF or library fanatic mom has already devoured every title ever selected for Oprah’s Book Club ( see the 100+ picks here if they haven’t). Her name conjures a million gags, in both senses of the word, and her grumpy, cantankerous grossness is a delight - but cross her at your peril.

If they want to take a break from reading, this puzzle featuring 50 classic book covers should be a good activity to break up the day. The acceptance, support and unconditional love she gives throughout the story makes your heart sing and is another wonderful example of the uncluttered relationship between the grandparent and grandchild. Alison carefully broke down her overall thoughts into sections so I could easily go back to these thoughts individually in my revision process. The robbers of London Town try to steal all of the city’s Christmas presents but Officer Pugh is up to the challenge of stopping them and getting all of the presents to the girls and boys. And it's a wonderful reminder that grandmas can be just as bonkers, playful and curious as the youngsters! I believe this book would be suitable for Key Stage One children to both use independently or as a book to be read in the classroom as a group.If my english teacher makes me read yet another book for 3 year olds to then give me a bad grade i will have to take matters into my own hands, anyways quite boring book to analyze and wanted to die a little more each lesson.
