While the character is the same in the Lewis Carroll novel, his fear of cats is taken from The Mouse, a separate character Alice meets earlier in the novel during the Pool of Tears and Caucus Race chapters.As it turns out, this sleepy-headed depiction is dead-on: The 28 species of small, little-known, tree-dwelling rodents known as dormice do snooze most of the day. (These fuzzy-tailed floofs—which range throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa—are even known to snore.) A dormouse feeds on a hazelnut by gnawing a round hole in the shell which leaves distinctive marks. When a dormouse feeds on a hazelnut its tooth marks run parallel to the edge of the hole instead of outwards from its center. Even fish can hibernate. Antarctic cod ( Notothenia coriiceps) cuts its metabolism by two-thirds and burrows under the seabed for days on end during dark Antarctic winters. Dormice are in fact, strictly protected by law. They may not be intentionally killed, injured or disturbed in their habitats or in their nests. Henry is best known for his penchant for chopping off his wives’ heads. One cannot help but draw a comparison between him and the similar behaviour of the nightmarish Queen of Hearts. In the illustrated manuscript of the early version of the story that Dodgson presented to Alice Liddell ( London, British Library, Add. For this, the best way is to make sure that any young ones are hand tamed from an early stage. A dormouse can also easily climb all over you, making them difficult to handle. So if you want to move them to clean their habitat or similar move, then the ideal time to move them is during the mid-day when they’re asleep. When they’re asleep they are unaware of the world around them, so you can scoop them up in your hands.
