This occurs when stomach acid flows into the food pipe, which can be caused by many different factors and the most common is just after eating. Reflux symptoms can include painful heartburn, indigestion or acid regurgitation. Sodium alginate is a naturally occurring substance that is found in a particular type of seaweed. In the presence of the calcium carbonate it reacts with the acid in the stomach to form a gel.Very rarely some people have experienced an allergic reaction after taking Peptac, such as an itchy rash (urticaria), breathing difficulties due to a narrowing of the airways (bronchospasm) or anaphylaxis. If you think you've had an allergic reaction to Peptac, don't take any more and get medical advice straight away. This medicine is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Peptac is an antacid treatment, used in relieving the symptoms of acid reflux/heartburn. It works by stopping stomach acid from leaving the stomach and entering the food pipe causing pain and discomfort. As Acidex mode of action is physical, overdosage in terms of the alginate content is virtually no hazard. The only consequence is abdominal discomfort which is best treated conservatively. The relatively low concentrations of sodium and calcium carbonate in Acidex would also make serious consequences from overdosage very unlikely. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition, are taking any other medication or complementary therapy, or if symptoms persist Peptac Liquid is a widely used and effective heartburn and indigestion medication however every patient can respond differently to medication.
