He appears in the episode, "The Power of Grayskull", waging battle and ultimately defeating the Snake Men led by King Hiss. However, Grayskull lost his sword in battle. He hoped it to be a sign that it signified true peace for Eternia. However, Hiss' rival Hordak, who had defeated the Snake Men, was planning on conquering Eternia. Therefore, Grayskull went on a quest to find the power he needed to defend his kingdom. At the top of a mountain, he met the oracle who guided him on his quest, showing him his lost sword and explaining that his entire quest was to show his inner strength. Before leaving however, the Oracle informed him that he would not survive the battle. Despite knowing this, King Grayskull vowed to do whatever it took to save Eternia. He then returned to face Hordak. Though outnumbered, Grayskull managed to channel his mystical energies through his sword, turning Hordak's spell on himself and his army, sending them to the dark dimension called Despondos. Despite this victory however, the Oracle's prophecy came to pass, for Hordak, whose spirit/soul was ripped from his body, managed to mortally wound Grayskull. As he lay dying, he proclaimed that his successor will wield his sword to defend Eternia. During his lifetime, King Grayskull ruled with wisdom and compassion. [2]

The episode " The Taking of Grayskull" is the only independent episode to feature the Sorceress running; though she is also depicted doing so in the 2nd recount of her and Man-at-Arm's confrontation with Hordak in the Secret of the Sword compilation. The Sorceress is clothed in long white robes, with feather-like strands of white fabric hanging from her arms as a homage to the original design, although they are only visible in the scene where she waves goodbye to the characters of Julie and Kevin. Rather than a bird-like headpiece, crystals are placed throughout the Sorceress' long, silver hair like a crown. Skeletor was initially the heir to the throne of Eternia, but his father King Miro decided to make Randor king instead, because Keldor was a half-blood, his blood mixed with a Gar. Miro favored Randor over Keldor, causing Keldor to grow bitter over time. Keldor eventually came to serve as Randor's advisor, but sought to overthrow his brother and take the throne that he rightfully believed was his. While on the verge of death thanks to a curse, Keldor stabbed Randor and used his blood to become Skeletor, with the aid of his mentor, Hordak.With Hordak having left Eternia for another world, and taking the infant princess with him. Skeletor set himself up in Snake Mountain and recruited his own army of henchmen, seeking to conquer Eternia and capture Castle Grayskull. Skeletor became the arch-enemy of He-Man and concocted various schemes to eliminate him. Later, he would be reunited with his old mentor, Hordak, and also made an enemy of He-Man's sister, She-Ra.

In the live-action movie, Castle Grayskull is finally captured by Skeletor's forces. The first image of it seen is of its interior as Skeletor, victorious at last, makes the long march across the castle's Throne Room. The throne resides in the posterior section of the room just beyond the section's seemingly incomplete marble foundation which rests atop pillars and framework that extend from a deep abyss. This foundation is formed in such a way that there are four large holes of sizes that altogether occupy most of the floor's area leaving a few wide catwalk walkways. The large posterior section of the room is lined with several tall statues of elders along each side whereas the much thinner, less tall, anterior section of the room is an open hallway lined with columns along each side. Near the throne, Skeletor has trapped the Sorceress within an energy field, which, little by little, transfers her power to him. The castle serves as Skeletor's main base of operations throughout the movie. According to the film, it houses a giant circular portal called "the Great Eye of the Galaxy", which only opens when Eternia's moon reaches its zenith, granting whoever stands before it god-like power. It is never explicitly stated, though visuals strongly indicate, that for this to happen the Sword of Grayskull must be inserted into a small column near the portal. The opening narration implies that Castle Grayskull itself is at the center of the universe. Castle Grayskull was made as a playset for both the 1980s and 2002 Masters of the Universe toy lines. The 1980s incarnation was one of the more popular Christmas presents for pre-adolescent boys in the 1980s.
