About this deal

The Kielder range comes with all the features we recommend for tents – they have an access flap for an electric hookup cable and exceedingly good waterprooofness – the hydrostatic head is 6000mm for the main tent and 10000mm for the groundsheet. You won’t be getting wet! It took a while figuring out how to put it up due to the air escaping rapidly, because the instructions were vague.

The front of the Eurohike contains a couple of large plastic windows which provide great visibility. There are also two large air vents for ventilation. In a nice design touch, the whole front section of the tent can also be rolled up for summer camping fresh air – we love this flexibility, but do miss having a covered porch area. There is also carpet available for this tent which really helps with interior comfort. Locate the inflation valve on the air beam. Remove the valve cover and push the middle pin until it extends out. Berghaus air 8 layout – 8 man tent – tunnel design with 2 pre-attached bedrooms and 1 spacious living room. The tent is protected from the top and the bottom by way of a flysheet that has been seam sealed and fully taped, with a heavy duty groundsheet beneath (which our youngest tripped over without fail every time she entered or left the tent). It’s generously ventilated with high and low-level vents and meshed doors for improved airflow and condensation control, which can be easily sealed in the event of bad weather. This was the first time putting up the tent (in the rain) and it took us around 30 minutes to put up the main tent and porch. It took us a bit longer as a few rookie errors were made along the way. Mostly with the porch. Getting it to lean into the tent correctly so no rain got in was a challenge. We did the best we could but properly remedied this the next day when the rain had stopped by pulling it over the main tent a little tighter with the guide ropes. We also use the porch area to dump all of our wet and muddy walking gear. This means that the main living space doesn’t get as dirty as it would if we were tramping about through the entire tent. It makes for a great changing area, and all in all it allows us to keep the main living area less cluttered, cleaner and easier to get around. Fully waterproof – 70 Denier flysheet with 6000mm Hydrostatic Head and fully taped seamed with a rain hood above the door to keep you and your belongings dry.

This latter point – the feel – shouldn’t be underestimated. The Berghaus 6XL feels like a luxury ‘proper’ tent. The kind you used to go off camping in with the scouts. It is a quality item and really will not disappoint. Absolutely no condensation in the mornings either. The extra space it gives is approximately 3.5 x 2.5 metres. It is made from the same waterproof material as the tent (6000mm HH) with fully taped seams. Walking through the front door leads into an expansive lounge area – this is your main living space, with a head height of over 2m – perfect for taller folk. The lounge measure 270 x 300cm and has two side doors to the outside, one with a neat little shelter (or ‘brow’) above it to get your shoes on without getting soaked. It also stops water coming in when the door is open – nice! Needed a bit of help from my friend's husband to put the porch up properly, but that's because it has the big sheet that goes over the top of the tent, and I couldn't get it over the top by myself. But otherwise it was easy to do.After having a Vango Monte Verde 900, which was a fantastic, huge tent, I decided to change it as the tent was impossible for just one or two people to put up (I'm a single parent) and weighed a ton. As its name suggests, the 6XL is a 6 person tent, but there is substantial room inside – for once a tent has been designed to comfortably support the number of people it claims! You can often get a great deal (especially if you have a free membership card) from Go Outdoors. This is where we bought our tent and camping equipment from. First off, let’s just find out the fundamentals! What exactly is an air tent and why would you want one? Inflatable tents are exactly the same as an any other tent, except for one significant difference. In place of traditional metal, fibreglass or plastic poles traditional poles, the tent has inflatable beams, which can be pumped up to provide a sturdy structure. How to put up a Berghaus Air 8– is it easy?

From parking up, putting down the footprint, pegging down the corners of the Air 8, pumping it up, pegging it down, and pegging the guy ropes. It took approximately 30 minutes in total on my own. The pump of the beams simply took 30 seconds per beam. I put the tent up in high winds.

We love its size, plenty of room means that our family of 5 and guests have adequate room and aren’t falling over each other or all our kit. The Dometic Ascension in use with the optional side annexe attached. In Use – our thoughts on the Dometic Ascension FTX 601 TC Weighing in at a fairly hefty 33.4kg (50kg for the polycotton version!) makes it almost certainly a two person job to carry any great distance. If you’re just transferring from a car boot to the ground then you can probably manage it on your own.

Let’s talk specs for the Joro. It comes in a rather natty blue colour and is reasonably similar in design to the Coleman Weathermaster 6XL. We were unfortunately not given the Hydrostatic Head information for the 6XL, but can report that our test model was definitely waterproof and will survive a biblical deluge. The lounge living space is a rather spacious 290 x 380cm (11 square metres) in area and is a lovely space for chilling out and relaxing. The porch is supported by one of the old fashioned fibre glass tent pole things. I thought those had died out years ago! 😉 We have just bought and tested this weekend the Berghaus Air 8 Inflatable tent and the matching porch. Berghaus have a reputation of making great, high quality outdoor gear. From clothes to climbing gear. They may not be the cheapest, but when you buy a Berghaus product, you know it will accomplish it’s purpose in life with aplomb (whatever a plomb might be!). Wrangle in a small child to assist! It’ll keep them busy and away from getting up to mischief while you’re trying to take down the tent!
