They both have dealt with big life events that changed them into who they are now. Later, Silver captures Captain Amelia and Dr. Doppler and took the map, and Jim along with it. When Silver finally gets the treasure, Treasure Planet begins to self-destruct, and Jim almost falls to his death. Silver has to choose between taking some of the treasure and saving Jim. He chooses Jim, which effectively saves his life as between them, they build a solar-surfer, and Jim manages to save the entire remaining crew from destruction. Despite this though, Captain Amelia tells Silver he’s going to be tried for his crimes. The authors’ message is that the victim is never to blame. Alexia’s stepdad is the messenger–for that and other positive messages, like blood ties don’t determine a parent’s love for their children, that failing doesn’t make one less worthy of love. It doesn’t mean that he’s a goody two shoes. Tough love is love too.

Francisco Scaramanga: Both have some form of Hispanic heritage, and are presented as being Bond's equal. Both feel they share a certain special connection with James, believing themselves to be two of a kind (Scaramanga highlighting how, "We are the best" in their murderous field/Silva about how M made them the "two survivors"). Both cinematic characters have island lairs near China, and a fearful mistress ( Andrea Anders/Sévérine) who, after conspiring with 007, are shot by the villain. The literary Scaramanga is also sexually ambiguous. After his brothers’ stories, I was excited to see what the authors had in store for Sterling. Bully romance/enemies to lovers in the first book, friends to lovers for the second, and now we get a second chance romance with a touch of fake relationship. And it was delicious.
