Baking : An electric convection oven is another option for drying your filament. You get a nice, dry heat and can bring your filament to slightly higher temperatures. Keep the filament in for a few hours to remove most of the moisture. As mentioned in the Post-Processing section, gas ovens produce a lot of moisture which could make your problems worse.High-Strength Filaments: Beginners won’t use materials like PC (polycarbonate), PEEK (poly ether ether ketone), PEI (polyetherimide), or PP (polypropylene). These advanced materials provide mechanical strength similar to metals at a fraction of the weight. This makes them common choices for commercial 3D printing. Most consumer-grade 3D printers, however, can’t handle the high temperatures needed to work with these materials. PEEK filaments, for example, require nozzle temperatures over 375ºC and bed temperatures over 130ºC. Both Hatchbox and eSun polylactic acid filaments have pros and cons. Both are excellent for 3D printing. However, depending on which factor–cost, color, consistency, finish, smell, and environmental footprint–matters most to you, one of the two brands will be better suited to your needs. Some users suggest that eSun’s white PLA is slightly more consistent than Hatchbox’s, but the difference is not great enough to suggest one manufacturer over the other. So, if you are planning to paint your pieces, do not let color be a deciding factor when choosing between Hatchbox and eSun filaments. Consistency The length of a 1 kg spool of PLA depends on the density of the filament. For standard 1.24g/cm3 density PLA, a 1 kg spool includes roughly 330 to 340 meters of filament.
Anycubic PLA is an excellent option for large prints that take a long time to complete . The filament is very sturdy and feeds smoothly into the extruder. Like so many things in life, location matters. For one thing, 3D printers are noisy. You don’t want your bedroom 3D printer running 18-hour print. You also want to place the printer somewhere with good ventilation. 3D printers also emit vapors from the melted filament. The vapors from PLA filaments are considered safe, but some people are more sensitive to the smell than others. ABS and other filament materials, however, emit toxic compounds that need to be vented outside. Level Your Bed PLA, or Polylactic Acid, is a biodegradable, odorless, non-toxic thermoplastic made from fermented plant-based organic sources – usually sugarcane, maize, and cornstarch.

The smaller diameter does make 1.75 mm filaments more sensitive to inconsistencies in the manufacturing process. A 0.2mm variation in diameter changes the 1.75 mm filament by 11% but only changes the 3.00 mm filament by 7%. One thing to note when discussing the smell of eSun and Hatchbox filaments is proper safety equipment. Though the fumes of PLA filaments, in general, are less dangerous than other types of 3D printing filaments, they are still not healthy for you.
