About this deal
A typical brushless motor has permanent magnets that rotate around a fixed armature, eliminating problems associated with connecting current to the moving armature.
I've just tried it on the bike and it works perfectly with my fully charged 36v 12ah lithium ion battery. It uses an electronic controller to switch DC currents to the motor windings producing magnetic fields that effectively rotate in space and which the permanent magnet rotor follows. In the external-rotor outrunner configuration, the radial relationship between the coils and magnets is reversed; the stator coils form the center (core) of the motor, while the permanent magnets spin within an overhanging rotor that surrounds the core. In the flat axial flux type, used where there are space or shape constraints, stator and rotor plates are mounted face to face. Here's another photo with the hidden lines shown and my estimate of the circuit from the suggestions. The controller adjusts the phase and amplitude of the DC current pulses to control the speed and torque of the motor. The application of brushless DC motors within industrial engineering primarily focuses on manufacturing engineering or industrial automation design. No material may be taken or duplicated in part or full without prior written consent of the owners of buggiesgonewild. The BMS I have used limits the current to 35 amps, so it should be able to produce 1500-1800w depending on the charge remaining.
To obtain linear motion, a motor controller excites the coil windings in the actuator causing an interaction of the magnetic fields resulting in linear motion. Brushless motors are capable of producing more torque and have a faster peak rotational speed compared to nitro- or gasoline-powered engines. I'll probably give this one a go, it ticks most of the boxes but looks like it is limited by power rather than by amps, so I don't think I'll be able to fully utilize the lower end of my battery range. My guess here is that my battery voltage is dropping below the controller's 50v lower limit, due to voltage sag and the controller is cutting the load.
