About this deal

Stunning 40th anniversary collector’s edition of this collection of tales which takes readers further into stories told in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, featuring 18 full-colour paintings, housed in a matching illustrated slipcase with two removable full-colour posters unique to this edition. Classic hardback edition of this fascinating collection of stories, featuring Tolkien’s own painting of the dragon Glaurung on the cover, which continues the tales of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion and contains an alternative version of The Children of Hurin.

Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. These have been discussed on the site, but I think a comparison with the 2013 editions would be useful. If this collector’s set had included a mass of new “extras” (as I am sure it could have done: given the immensity of the production, there must have been a huge amount of behind-the-scenes video shot, and a retrospective documentary on Peter Jackson’s version of Middle-earth would also now have been timely), then I might have faced a difficult decision. Perhaps the 2013 editions aren’t mentioned in the 2022 set because they see them as totally separate? Housing the complete saga of The Lord of the Rings in one unique volume, this sumptuous hardback edition of Tolkien’s iconic masterpiece features, for the very first time, thirty glorious colour illustrations, sketches and maps produced by the author himself.

Me gusta mucho la ambientación de la película, Elijah esta sorprendente, hace muy bien el papel de psicopata, en cuanto al tema sonoro, se escucha muy bien al ser película nueva, la banda sonora es brutal. The bloodthirsty biographies of the world’s most infamous pirates are reproduced in this Folio edition of Captain Charles Johnson’s renowned work, including original woodcut illustrations and a fascinating introduction by Margarette Lincoln. The Hobbit movies were shot digitally at 5k resolution and were reportedly redone at 4k for this release, and look astonishing. As five great armies go to war, Bilbo fights for his life, and the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must unite or be destroyed. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Lee is one of the most celebrated living illustrators of myth and fantasy: a recipient of the Kate Greenaway Medal and an Oscar-winner for his conceptual work on Peter Jackson’s films of The Lord of the Rings. Featuring a fascinating introduction by Val McDermid and new illustrations by Juan Esteban Rodríguez, each copy has been signed by both the introducer and the illustrator.

This set actually robs us of any new insight we were expecting by PJ’s decade of promises about unreleased documentary material. Die-hard fans will be able to catch never-before-seen footage, lines and more that didn’t make the final cut.

In the Lay of the Völsungs is told the ancestry of the great hero Sigurd, the slayer of Fáfnir, most celebrated of dragons; of his awakening of the Valkyrie Brynhild, who slept surrounded by a wall of fire, and of their betrothal; and of his coming to the court of the great princes who were named the Niflungs (or Nibelungs), with whom he entered into blood-brotherhood.
