Although I may not be a big microphone head and known for using those, I do have my fair share of experience, and I have been using a few over the years.
The H5’s XLR/TRS combo inputs can handle both mic- and line-level signals for microphones, wireless receivers, mixers, keyboards and more. The H5 supports a 4 dB (professional) input level and utilizes the same high-quality preamps as our flagship H6, ensuring great-sounding recordings in all sonic environments. I have always been a bit frustrated with the overall build quality, and recording quality of the Zoom H2n, and always wanted an upgrade, and well, Zoom H5 has been that upgrade. A prime example of someone who doesn’t need an H5 would be a podcaster who records solo or online interview episodes directly into their computer with a USB mic. There's also a built-in speaker for fast access playback, and a USB port which allows the H5 to be used as an audio interface for your computer or iPad.The pick up is better than my NTG2 shotgun mic and that NTG is also improved when plugged into the H5. Zoom F6 can only record from external microphones, so don’t even think about it, if you want to be recording with the XY module built in either H2n or H5. To silence this subject once and for all, multiple sources from the music creation department actually told me that cables do make a difference, and studios do rely on different cables for different jobs. Track buttons and LED indicators for ‘L’, ‘R’, 1 and 2 channels are positioned above the main transport section which includes stop, play/pause, back, forward, and record.
H5 is vastly superior in every way compared to the H2n, and no offence to Zoom, but the sound of H2n is really poor in comparison. You can use both outputs simultaneously to route audio to your DSLR while monitoring with headphones. The Pre-Record function captures and saves two seconds of audio before you hit RECORD, perfect for unexpected starts. You’ll get great audio from these whether you’re using them for a single voice, multiple voices, or general ambient recordings.ECM-3 is a 3m extension, and ECM-6 is a 6m extension, both include a hot shoe adapter to allow the user to mount to a tripod or boom pole. Zero Handling noise thanks to the material the unit is made, XLRs just make the job with no complaints at all. Record continuously for about 10 hours with just 2 AA batteries or extend your recording time indefinitely with the optional AD-17 AC adapter. It is light in the hand, easy to use, and although I have not taken advantage of its full potential, I feel like I have an excellent tool in my arsenal now.

The main disadvantage would be that the bass recorded is quite low in quantity, and you would have to do a lot of post production and you still wouldn’t bring it anywhere near close to the same effect as NTG-3B.
