When a tile in Survive – Escape from Atlantis is removed from Atlantis there are different special abilities. The last way that Riley Evans wanted to spend spring break was studying whales on the family sailboat in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle.
So instead of spending her spring break at home with her friends, she had to go on this stupid trip. Each player places 10 stranded people on the island of Atlantis (made up of terrain hexes in a modular fashion), and they have to try to get them off to the safety of neighbouring isles before Atlantis sinks.
In Survive: Escape from Atlantis, everyone has a group of people that are on an island that's slowly sinking and it's your job to get as many of your people to the mainland as possible. You know that you definitely must not get into the water, because that's where the shark will attack you, just for another player to pull the land tile from under your feet and drop you in at the deep end. Starting with the first player, you may look at the number of your explorer before placing it on an empty tile on the Atlantis landscape. Navigate staircases to find the shortest path from the high tower to the harbour where a boat to safety is waiting for you.This definitely leans into a lot of the interesting brainwashy sci-fi kind of stuff, the utopian ideology, which I wasn't expecting, and the ending hit me in a way I didn't think it would with something like this. Each action is represented with an illustration but the back of the rule book gives a clear explanation of what the action is and when it can be used. Survive is a cutthroat game where players seek to evacuate their pieces from an island that is breaking up, while remembering where their highest-valued pieces are located to maximize their score. As Riley and Alfie unravel the mystery of Atlantis and its most terrifying part, the Forbidden Zone, they realize that the clock is ticking. Playing The Game: Objective: To save more of your Atlanteans than any of the other players by the time one player saves their last surviving piece.
