About this deal

I had a copy of this on cassette tape way back when so when I wanted to hear it I had to turn to YouTube.

It was the concept of composer Jim Steinman, was recorded through 1975 and 1976, and was produced by Todd Rundgren. It was tough getting a copy in the UK but finally mine arrived this morning after a 5 week journey from the US.These again just didn't cut it and the Multichannel version being seen as a 'rush job' to cash in on the launch of SACD. The compositions are staggeringly ridiculous, yet Meat Loaf finds the emotional core in each song, bringing true heartbreak to Two out of Three Ain't Bad and sly humour to Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Meatloaf's Legendary album 'Bat Out Of Hell' which made him a household name, pressed 180gram heavyweight black vinyl. A constant for years in the album charts, it has been followed up by Bat Out of Hell 2 and 3, and a stage musical.

There's no discounting the production of Todd Rundgren, either, who gives Steinman's self-styled grandiosity a production that's staggeringly big but never overwhelming and always alluring. I played half of the title track from my regular release just to have a clear memory of how it sounded and there it was, music and Meat Loaf crumpled into a ball lodged somewhere between the front speakers but it's Bat out of Hell and it's great. I feel really lucky to have this release in my collection, it sits alongside my regular release and 2 of the SACD releases (Multichannel and Analog Sparks) but this will always be my go-to version. This stunning performance from the Bottom Line Club, Ne York in 1977 captures all the classic hits, live on stage. Years after it was released, the 16x platinum selling Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell is to be repressed on vinyl for the first time since its initial release. It is influenced by the work of Phil Spector, Bruce Springsteen and The Who, and Jimmy Iovine, who produced ‘Born to Run’, mixed the track ‘Two out of Three Ain’t Bad’. Coming 16 years after the release of the multiplatinum Bat out of Hell, Back into Hell doubles down on the humour and theatricality of Meat’s debut making it a worthy successor.
