I had the impression Usami was a follower of idols herself as she deftly portrays the positives of the culture as well as how it can get ugly. The protagonist, a secondary school student, Akari, worships a J-pop group member, Masaki Ueno, who is a modern version of Peter Pan. Akari immediately begins sifting through everything she can find about the scandal, and shares every detail to her blog—including Masaki’s denials and pleas to his fans—drawing numerous readers eager for her updates.

As a result, she experiences the full spectrum of emotions, as well as isolation (both real and imagined), and must learn how to move on. Its a book that may not be for everyone, but its one that I do have a deep understanding for and I loved the message that the author was trying to bring. Its interesting of a human psychology that we can actually judge someone, solely from their online persona , and what the media portrays them to be, only for us to cancel them once they made a mistake.
