With Scream/Shout Factory re releasing a lot of their titles on 4K UHD we once again get to watch the movie that started it all for them. Not creepy exactly (okay, the mangy cat is kind of creepy), but certainly delightfully odd, if at times too macabre for young children.

Coraline Limited Edition Steelbook 4K HDR/2K Blu-ray contains the film directed by Henry Selick, housed in a steelbook case. Director Henry Selick's ("The Nightmare Before Christmas") beguiling 3Danimated film, based on the Neil Gaiman novel, co-stars the voices of Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane. The work done here on this 4K UHD disc shows what a difference the platform can make even to the newest of Blu-ray editions – when time and consideration are taken into effect (as is the case here with Shout Factory’s work).

Bright and adventurous at the cusp of teenagerdom where someone both is in need of their parents and repelled. The second disc in this two disc edition has a 3D version of the movie and the box contains several pairs of 3D glasses to go with it. Covering all aspects from voice acting to puppet making and puppet costumes and how stop motion animation works this is very interesting viewing and well worth a look. Her “other parents” are loving and attentive instead of distant and pre-occupied, and everyone in the world just wants to entertain her, leading Coraline to wish that she’d never leave.All told by a master storyteller who succeeds in creating a character you can root for and situations that will keep you gripped. Coraline enters the parallel universe again with a new 4K + Blu-ray Disc set from Shout Factory and Laika by way of a glorious SteelBook. An evil monster who manipulates and controls events to lure unsuspecting children in and then steal away their life as she sucks them dry.

Height: Up above, you get characters crossing camera, things falling down and plenty of mystical contributions. Many of the finer details and textures are still visible and prove even more fine in the darkest areas of the frame still.The HDR options, especially the Dolby Vision pass, widen the gamut considerably, allowing for the colorful environments of the film to leap off the screen, not to mention Coraline’s signature blue hair and yellow rain coat. Even with those inspirations feeling present, its also very much its own beast, showcasing a fresh, new grimm type fairytale for adults and kids of any era and any age. It was one of my very favorite films of that decade and one of the best 3D experiences I’ve still had to this day.
