About this deal

This is because it offers an angle of view that is perfect for a huge range of applications, from portraiture to landscape, street photography to close-ups. Since this lens is part of the original 3, which were a bit all over the place when it comes to build quality and consistency, the tolerances are not up to par with more recent releases. This, I am sure, you will know, and I only mention it for those just starting out in photography, as we all have been there at the beginning, purchased a lens because of the reviews and images, only then to find it doesn't exactly suit our requirements. As far as locking onto a static or slow moving target (in good light) the two lenses perform roughly the same.

When people ask me if this lens produces sharp images, I always have this moment of hesitation before giving them the answer. But this is looking at the reported weights and a small package scale, in terms of perceivable weight, these two lenses honestly – to me – feel like they weigh the same.Along with its solid, high-quality metal barrel, it features an external aperture ring and Fujifilm's new X-Mount. There are plenty of reasons why this lens is still a great purchase today, eight years after its original release. Autofocus is reasonably fast under ideal lighting conditions due to the electronic focus motor built in to the lens.

was on the roadmap for a while but Fujifilm dropped this option in favor of an XF 50mm f/1 R WR, which was released in September 2020. You can benchmark contrast or bokeh roundness, but sometimes, the marriage of certain optical elements produces a unique look and feel. Thanks to the lens’ natural-looking perspective and dreamy bokeh with gorgeous falloff, it’s capable of producing images that beautifully reproduce the depth and dimensionality of a scene. It’s something that I can put in my bag or throw on any of my cameras to use in almost any situation I might want the 50mm perspective. This isn’t something that affects day to day use, but is worth noting that it does seem to be normal behaviour.

when shooting test charts and whatnot, but I don't know of a lens that is as capable of making consistently great looking images. can be shot wide open without sacrificing noticeable sharpness, giving you creamy subject isolation. We traveled for six weeks in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand in early 2017, and due to space and weight constraints in my backpack, I only brought two lenses, the XF 35mm f/1. More often than not, this results in multiple unique perspectives that stitch together to tell a grander story.

At that range I usually stop down anyways so probably the performance wide open is not ideal of the 35mm at that close distances. The Fuji X-pro1's infamous back-focusing grabbed the cityscape in this shot, but at f/8, there are no unsightly blurry areas. I'm referring to an all-metal construction of a lens and not plastic simply because a metal lens is more durable. As many of you know, Fuji does wonders with their firmware updates, and they’ve really transformed this lens over the years. What’s also important is that I was able to bump up the exposure for this photo without introducing a ton of noise. Most striking for this review is the selection of a lens that Fujifilm doesn't consider optimal for use with the 40MP sensor.
