About this deal

Could be because I have the newer bottle, but I honestly can't be sure since I don't have the older one to compare it with. After letting it macerate a few weeks (in which air introduced to the bottle from spraying “ages” the liquid a bit) it now matches the decant I’ve had for a number of years in scent and performance. A sweet and bright scent that is just a touch powdery, with a strong almond note followed by tonka bean.

Both have excellent performance, but there are subtle differences - ALM projects a little more, but L'Homme Ideal has slightly better longevity. On my skin I had a beautiful mixture of that sweet airy almond almost amaretto note and a leathery woody tobacco dry down.I'll try this a few more times to see if it's just my subjective impression or whether it really has been neutered. it's not as revolutionary as those created by Thierry Mugler more than twenty-five years ago, but it is innovative enough for a typical conservative designer like Guerlain. I should probably spray this with a heavy hand next time (6-7 sprays), which is something I have to get used to since I'm normally a light sprayer (usually 4-5 sprays max). Guerlain L'Homme Ideal EDP is a top 10 all time masterpiece of perfumery - especially in the context of modern perfumery. i´m going to end with this nice hobby if these companies continue with these awful non-innovative marketing strategies .

Pierre-François, along with his sons Aimé and Gabriel, laid the groundwork for a fragrance legacy that has stood the test of time.

The opening to my nose has a boozy cherry type of smell and it's nice, but when this dries down it gets even better! It’s a semi-sweet gourmand with a much-needed youthful masculine kick which adds all the depth needed to be a great fragrance. Top notes are Almond, Spices, Lavender, Bergamot, Thyme and Rosemary; middle notes are Cherry, Vanilla, Incense and Bulgarian Rose; base notes are Leather, Tonka Bean and Sandalwood. I own the Intense flanker version which I judge to be better balanced, showing a bit of cardamom in the opening.

L'Instant, Habit Rouge and Heritage are Guerlain's untouchable masculine fragrance landmarks and set a target hard to achieve with other scents. This would be a nice date night frag, because the person that your on a date with probably won't say they've smelled this frag on their past partners before. Every time I have worn this someone always says something nice to me and I'm happy to share with them what it is. A good candidate for a signature scent, could be worn all year around, in formal settings or informal gatherings, at a date night, at office, whatever. That said, I am very curious to smell the Intense version, as I can imagine warm spices and amped up leather taking this sweet almond composition in interesting ways.In general, it belongs to spicy/aromatic family, I can smell almost all of it's notes listed above but spices are rocking hard. That's really upsetting considering it costs more than the Guerlain L'homme Ideal Cologne and I get way better performance from that with fewer sprays.
